How to Use Traditional Interior Design Style in Your Salon
Traditional is a design style all about classic elegance inspired by 18th and 19th-century European décor. Symmetry is defining element within the traditional design as a calm, orderly aesthetic is a desirable trait. While simplistic in form, furnishings are typically elaborate in detail, adorned in decorative tufting or piping, and sporting intricate wood carvings.
Patterns are also very present in décor. From florals and damasks to stripes and plaids to paisleys, and chinoiserie prints, all are classic staples that can be intermixed. Materials such as wood, leather, stone, linen, cotton, velvet, marble, glass, silk, and metals such as bronze, brass, and copper define traditional finishes. You will often see leather furniture, rich colored hardwood floors and furnishings, marble countertops, and brass hardware within a traditionally styled space. The most common types of wood you will find are maple, mahogany, and cherry, and all are generally lacquered and carved.
Colors are typically muted to ground elaborate furnishings, but primary and organic hues are also present in traditionally inspired color palettes. It is not uncommon to see a deep red chair or various accent pieces in more vibrant colors.
